High School Department -  Varsity Team

Basketball Varsity is designed to enable students to manage the theory of the basketball and to put the fundamentals of the game to use during the intermediate competition. It means the principal athletic teams representing a college, a university, and a high school or secondary school in sports competing in other schools. This exercise is used to develop the individual fundamentals of passing, shooting, ball handling team offense and  individual defense.

By the time school year 2009-2010 has began, rumors and suggestions of having a school varsity is a major factor for all of us who wanted to give it a try in basketball, for both for boys and girls. This year is a fantastic year wherein varsity tryout  happened as an interesting event at Angels in Heaven School.

The administration agreed on having the tryout provided that this will be a helpful motivational tool in earning and gaining high scores in the academic subjects that it won’t be a cause of such deterring factors why a particular students misses out  a classroom activity, until the most awaited Basketball Varsity Try-outs were commenced. It was such a fantastic event wherein more than fifty students participated. Both male and female who enlisted had shown their  prowess. After a short weekend, everyone was excited for the announcement of those lucky ones who were chosen to represent the school as the official basketball players. Only few were chosen but, still, they have already won because they have shown passion for the sport. Many tried, but only few were chosen.

After weeks of training, the team was informed that they will be having a match in the familialympics together with the parents of the elementary students. And, although the team practiced well, it was just not enough because the parents are more powerful and much taller and bigger than them, nevertheless, they have shown a big leap in basketball.

However, due to the intense scheduling of training, the varsity members suffered a little bit in their academics. In view of this, it is unlikely that the players of the varsity team should be lessening their training activities and concentrate a little more in their academics.

There is a rule for a varsity player to keep his/her grade 85 or else they’ll be evicted from the team. But they are all great players.  So, shouldn’t we give them another chance to prove themselves? This is the downside of the boy’s varsity team. They have to be more responsible in their academics as well as in their trainings – a hard task for them to accomplish gratefully.

AHS  High School Department  with all of its eager body of studentry watched out for this sought after basketball try-out among boys and girls..

The tension and excitement never stopped. Everybody was so excited and all-out support was given to this batch of future varsity players.

This activity was spearheaded by Coach Elmer  Talampas who trained these young minds mindful of the purpose and goal setting it embraces.
