Will It Be The End For Mother Earth? ( Nature’s Answer to Our Careless Acts ) By: Vivien Mary S. Sarabillo |
Human's very life depends on nature. But nature does not need or depend on humans for life. Unless we say in this modern day and age, that nature depends on humans to not destroy it, and humans so often seem like they don’t care. When we say that an action/corporation/product is ecological we refer to how it supports the interdependence of all living organisms within an environment, which is itself a living organism. When we destroy any part of our natural environment, we destroy a part of ourselves, because our personal ecology is fully dependent on the ecology of the natural elements that surrounds us. All of us know for a fact that during these past few months, we have just experienced the wrath of nature. It answered our careless acts of throwing garbage anywhere and polluting the air. Strong typhoons and storm affected us which caused thousands of property lost and damage, death of people who were foughtlessly buried under the ground and other losses and casualties that that even worsened the scenario. But despite what happened, still, we were able to show concern and it brought out who we are by the ways we did to be able to help. Unsung heroes suddenly became other people’s hopes for survival. Our creativity unveiled itself and our generosity unfolded. But, what has become of the affected provinces and places? Some parts of our devastated country suffered way-off the charts. Their crops were destroyed, livestock were no longer really effective in the markets. It seemed like their lives were almost annihilated by a series of phenomena. In other places, there were no electricity and water,. There were people who thought that it was just God’s way of telling or warning us about the state of our nature; for others, that was just an obstacle that’s needed to be conquered in our lives. But the results were all the same: severe pain and grim. But one thing very important was people able to carry out, and that is, to smile in the midst if calamities and problems. It prevailed all the tears and sufferings that we experienced. And it is one of the priceless things more than anything we lost in a material form. When we disrespect nature we disrespect and misunderstand "ourselves." When we are confused about who and what "I am" is, it is that much easier to disrespect and misunderstand others. Just like human beings, no country is separate and complete unto itself. I hope that we will come to understand that caring for nature means caring for "ourselves." That caring about "myself," means caring about you. That caring about my country means, caring about your country. That caring about "us", adds to the quality of all of life. |
